Rep. Schiff Reveals Outstanding Subpoenas

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, detailed Wednesday some of the Minority's requests that, so far, Chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA) has refused.

Schiff's press release comes the day after White House Communications Director Hope Hicks interviewed with the Intel committee and refused to answer questions about her time in the White House at the White House's request.

"To date, there are dozens of important witnesses who have yet been invited, let alone compelled to come before the committee. And all too many of the witnesses who have appeared, have refused to answer direct questions of core investigative interest to the Committee, and have asserted unprecedented and risible claims of privilege. Moreover, whole categories of vital documents, including financial and communications records held by third party service providers, can only be obtained through legal process, but to date the Majority has ignored or refused to entertain such requests that pertain to the Committee’s authorized Russia investigation.

“The integrity and independence of the Committee and Congress’ investigative and enforcement powers are at stake. To be credible, the Russia investigation cannot simply take witnesses at their word, or accept baseless assertions of privilege where none apply. Instead, the Committee must verify assertions made by witnesses in testimony, compel testimony as well as the full production of responsive documents, and, where necessary, move to enforce subpoenas.”

Schiff wants Donald Trump Jr. to answers questions about the false statement he gave when the press uncovered his June 9, 2016 meeting with Russians at Trump Tower.

He wants lawyer Michael Cohen to provide documentation proving his claim he did not travel to Prague to meet with Russians as the Steele dossier alleges.

He would like Attorney General Jeff Sessions to answer the committee's questions about "whether the President ever sought to enlist him in efforts that could amount to obstruction of justice or the abuse of power."

Schiff would like the committee to start contempt proceedings against Steve Bannon, who already has been subpoenaed, and subpoena both Hope Hicks and Corey Lewandowski who simply have refused to answer questions.

Schiff also has request for information from Deutsche Bank, Twitter, the White House regarding any Trump-Comey conversations, and other encrypted messaging applications as well as unredacted phone and communications records from the Trump Organization.
