UPDATE 2: President Trump has decided not to release the Democratic memo as written.

BREAKING: Citing national security concerns, Trump says he won't declassify Democratic memo on Russia probe, asks for revisions.

In a letter addressed to Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, White House Counsel Don McGahn says the minority memo contains too much classified information so the president, while "inclined to declassify the February 5th Memorandum," "is unable to do so at this time."

McGahn says President Trump has directed Justice Department personnel to help the committee revise the memo should they so desire.

McGahn also included a letter signed by DOJ Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and FBI Director Christopher Wray which indicated the two men reviewed the Democratic memo and pointed out areas of concern.

As The Atlantic's Natasha Bertrand reminds us, the president released the Nunes memo without hesitation and without redactions in spite of the FBI and DOJ telling him not to do so because they had grave concerns

CNN explains House Democrats do have a way to override the president's decision.

That would require a vote of the full House after a rare debate in closed session for the full chamber.

But it's not clear whether Republicans will be willing to take that step, and the GOP committee members were hesitant about defying Trump on the memo earlier this week.

Rep. Adam Schiff, who wrote the Democratic memo, tweeted his reaction to President Trump's decision.

After ignoring urging of FBI & DOJ not to release misleading Nunes memo because it omits material facts, @POTUS now expresses concerns over sharing precisely those facts with public and seeks to send it back to the same Majority that produced the flawed Nunes memo to begin with:

UPDATE: CNN reports President Trump, as of Friday afternoon, still is figuring out what his options are with regard to the Democratic rebuttal to the Nunes memo which he inaccurately claimed vindicated him in the Russia probe.

The House Intelligence Committee voted unanimously on Monday to release the 10-page Democratic memo, and the committee rules give him five days -- or until the end of the day Saturday -- to decide whether to block or allow its release ...

"This afternoon, the President met with the director of the FBI, the principal associate deputy attorney general, and the White House Counsel's Office to discuss the memorandum from the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and receive their input," principal deputy press secretary Raj Shah said. "The President is weighing his options and will respond soon."

Reporters asked President Trump Friday when he might make the Democratic response to Rep. Devin Nunes' (R-CA) memo public, and he responded that something is coming soon.

Politico:

Pressed on the timing of the release by reporters during an impromptu gaggle in the Oval Office, Trump confirmed the disclosure would come shortly.

"It's going to be released soon," Trump told reporters. "We're going to release a letter soon."

The president did not provide additional details on what the letter would detail.

CNN:

The President was granted until Friday to decide whether to block or allow the release of the 10-page Democratic memo after the House Intelligence Committee voted unanimously to make it public.
