Scott Balber, an attorney for Russian oligarch Aras Agalarov and his son Emin Agalarov, has provided CNN with documents he claims show Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya intended to meet with Donald Trump Jr. to discuss repeal of the Magnitsky Act and not to provide anti-Clinton information as Trump Jr.'s own emails previously indicated.
According to CNN, Balber traveled to Moscow to obtain new emails and talking points from Veselnitskaya. He says something got lost in translation and suggests maybe Rob Goldstone, Emin's publicist who arranged the meeting at Trump Tower, was exaggerating when he offered dirt on Clinton. Balber has attempted to lay blame on Goldstone before, telling Fox News in July that details in Goldstone's email to Trump Jr. were "fiction."
The newly shared emails are between Goldstone and Veselnitskaya, and in them, the Russian lawyer says that lobbyist Rinat Akhmetshin and translator Anatoli Samochornov have signed non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) in order to join her in the meeting. Akhmetshin's attorney says his client does not remember signing an NDA; the Trump campaign says it has no knowledge of participants signing NDAs; and CNN points out the absence of any obvious reason for an NDA.
