Manhattan Madam Testifies

News  |  Aug 10, 2018

Special Counsel Robert Mueller called "Manhattan Madam" Kristin Davis to testify before a federal grand jury Friday, presumably because of her association with Roger Stone.

Davis worked closely with Stone for years during her fleeting forays into New York politics — she ran for governor in 2010 — and is even the godfather to her young son.

She has also served prison stints for running a prostitution ring and selling prescription drugs, and was most recently released in May 2016, according to the Bureau of Prisons. But on CNN last month, Stone called her “a brilliant woman who has paid her debt to society,” and said Davis “has helped me build some websites,” among other collaborations.

Davis’ testimony Friday further underscores how widely Mueller’s probe has reached, and how many unanswered questions remain about his work.

Davis is just one of several Stone associates Mueller's team has interviewed or is interested in questioning.

Politico:

The special counsel’s team of prosecutors have already interviewed longtime Stone colleagues Sam Nunberg and Michael Caputo. Another Stone aide, Andrew Miller, is fighting a Mueller subpoena in court.

Stone has previously said he is prepared to be indicted, though he insists that if he is, it would be for an "extraneous" business-related infraction unrelated to Russian election meddling.

Wall Street Journal:

Mr. Mueller on Thursday subpoenaed the man who Mr. Stone claims was his backchannel to WikiLeaks throughout the 2016 presidential campaign—New York comedian and radio personality Randy Credico. The subpoena was confirmed by Mr. Credico’s attorney, Martin Stolar.

Mr. Credico, a radio personality who interviewed [Julian] Assange during the height of the campaign in 2016, has denied being a conduit between Wikileaks and Mr. Stone. He says he didn’t have a relationship with Mr. Assange until the WikiLeaks founder agreed to do his radio program on Aug. 25, weeks after Mr. Stone claimed to be in touch with him.

Weeks before the 2016 election, WikiLeaks began releasing the emails of Mrs. Clinton’s campaign chairman, John Podesta. Last month, Mr. Mueller’s team said those emails were hacked by Russian intelligence officers.

The subpoena to Mr. Credico requests his testimony before a grand jury on Sept. 7. He and his lawyer believe he will be asked about his relationships with Messrs. Stone and Assange.
