Sam Nunberg returned to TV Wednesday and said he had told Roger Stone not to associate with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.
CNN:
"I warned (Stone) repeatedly during the 2016 summer, do not associate yourself with Julian Assange," Nunberg said in an interview on CNN's "New Day."
When asked how Stone, a longtime adviser to President Donald Trump, responded to his warnings, Nunberg said, "Roger is going to do what Roger is going to do."
"Roger's advised me not to do certain things. We're very stubborn people," he said of the man he calls his mentor.
The Washington Post reported Tuesday that Stone told two associates – one being Nunberg – that he had connected with Assange. Morgan Pehme, a producer on the Netflix documentary "Get Me Roger Stone," provided a third accounting, saying Stone spoke multiple times during filming about trying to meet with the Wikileaks founder. Pehme adds that he does not know if Stone was successful.
Stone continues to deny he ever had any contact with Assange even though he publicly said he did during the 2016 campaign.
WaPo:
On Aug. 8, 2016, in an appearance at the Southwest Broward Republican Organization, Stone answered a question about what he believed would be the campaign's October surprise by saying: "I actually have communicated with Assange. I believe the next tranche of his documents pertain to the Clinton Foundation, but there's no telling what the October surprise may be."
He later said he had not meant that he had communicated with Assange directly.
