... And Comey Too

News  |  Jan 23, 2018

Building on the Tuesday morning news that Special Counsel Robert Mueller's team interviewed Attorney General Jeff Sessions last week, The New York Times reports Mueller's office also interviewed former FBI Director James Comey last year.

NYT:

The interview with Mr. Comey focused on a series of memos he wrote about his interactions with Mr. Trump that unnerved Mr. Comey. In one memo, Mr. Comey said that Mr. Trump had asked him to end the F.B.I.’s investigation into the former national security adviser, Michael T. Flynn.

CNN:

It became public shortly after Comey's ouster that he had kept contemporaneous memos on conversations where he wrote that Trump asked him to let go of an investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

CNN reported in May that Mueller had been briefed on the contents of some of Comey's memos.

Comey, while still FBI chief, confirmed the existence of the Justice Department's Russia investigation, and in testimony for a June hearing after his firing, Comey affirmed his claim that Trump sought to influence ongoing investigations.

During that June hearing, Comey said he believed he was fired "because of the Russia investigation."

"I was fired in some way to change, or the endeavor was to change, the way the Russia investigation was being conducted," Comey said.

NBC News:

Sessions' rank within the administration along with Comey’s close proximity to the obstruction angle may indicate that Mueller is zeroing in on central characters as he enters the more advanced stages of the investigation.
