Special Counsel Robert Mueller's team has submit a status report to the court in advance of an appearance scheduled for Monday in the case of the government's charges against former Trump campaign officials Paul Manafort and Rick Gates.
The report gives a sense of the sheer amount of information the prosecution has on hand, including the following:
- 400,000 items such as financial records, vendor records, email communications, and corporate records
- 2,000 "hot" documents
- Imaged copies of 36 electronic devices
Authorities collected the evidence through 15 different search warrants.
Politico explains why the prosecution has designated some information "hot":
Mueller’s team said that because the amount of materials in the legal discovery process is so great, the prosecution has tried to flag the most significant records.
“Given the volume of discovery in this case, the government also produced to defendants certain documents that it identified as ‘hot,’” prosecutors said, with about 2,000 records in that category.
