House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA) admitted in a television appearance Monday that the FISA court judge who approved renewing a warrant against Carter Page did know the political origins of the Steele dossier, even though the Nunes memo made public Friday alleged the opposite.
[I]n an appearance on "Fox & Friends," Nunes was asked about reports over the weekend that the FBI application did refer to a political entity connected to the dossier. It is unclear precisely what language the application might have used.
Nunes conceded that a "footnote" to that effect was included in the application, while faulting the bureau for failing to provide more specifics.
"A footnote saying something may be political is a far cry from letting the American people know that the Democrats and the Hillary campaign paid for dirt that the FBI then used to get a warrant on an American citizen to spy on another campaign," Nunes said on "Fox & Friends."
Nunes also used his appearance on Fox & Friends to claim there is no evidence President Trump and former campaign advisor George Papadopoulos ever met, in spite of the fact that the president tweeted a photo of himself on March 31, 2016 sitting in a small national security meeting with Papadopoulos.
