Rick Gates' lawyers have asked to be dismissed from his case, but the request, filed last week and unsealed today, is short on information as to why.
CNN:
"Irreconcilable differences have developed with the client which make our effective representation of the client impossible," Gates' trial attorneys Shan Wu, Walter Mack and Annemarie McAvoy wrote in a filing submitted to federal court last Thursday, which was unsealed Wednesday.
The lawyers told the court they couldn't provide more details about their specific reasons because that could breach the privileged attorney-client relationship. They also said revealing more details could prejudice possible future jurors against Gates and are potentially "embarrassing."
WaPo:
Gates and his attorneys have not shown public signs of discord, despite drawn-out bail talks and the appearance that he has fewer financial assets than initially asserted by prosecutors.
A shift could leave Gates, 45, with his third set of attorneys since he and his former employer, [Paul] Manafort, 68, were indicted Oct. 30 on fraud, conspiracy and money-laundering counts in the first disclosed charges of Mueller’s probe of Russian interference in U.S. political affairs.
