I'll Interview Under Oath

News  |  Jan 24, 2018

UPDATE 2: President Trump's lawyers are not ready to say it is okay.

The Daily Beast:

John Dowd, a lawyer for President Donald Trump, told The Daily Beast on Thursday he will be the one to decide whether or not Trump sits down for an interview with special counsel Robert Mueller. Dowd also said he hasn’t made any decision on whether or not an interview will happen.

UPDATE: NYT:

Ty Cobb, the White House lawyer leading the response to the investigation, said Mr. Trump was speaking hurriedly and intended only to say that he was willing to meet.

“He’s ready to meet with them, but he’ll be guided by the advice of his personal counsel,” Mr. Cobb said. He said the arrangements were being worked out between Mr. Mueller’s team and the president’s personal lawyers.

Answering questions while standing in the doorway of his Chief of Staff's office in the White House on Wednesday, President Trump insisted again there was "no collusion whatsoever," added "no obstruction whatsoever," and said he would interview with Special Counsel Robert Mueller if his lawyers give the okay. It is a notable caveat that gives the president an out.

Audio of the full impromptu 12:47 news conference is here. A clip of the last 5:05 that addresses Robert Mueller and the Russia investigation is here. You can read the full transcript here

The Associated Press has a :39 clip that starts with Trump saying he is looking forward to talking to Mueller:

TRUMP: But I would love to do that, and I'd like to do it as soon as possible. Good luck everybody.

Reporter: Do you have a date set, Mr. President?

TRUMP: I guess they're talking about two or three weeks, but I would love to do it. You know, again, I have to say, subject to my lawyers and all of that, but I would love to do it.

The Washington Post offers a slightly longer 1:31 clip:
