Trump Lawyer Had More Russian Contact During Campaign

According to The Washington Post, Donald Trump's longtime personal attorney and Trump Organization executive vice president Michael Cohen had two more interactions with Russians during the 2016 presidential campaign than previously revealed.

Documents the Trump Organization turned over to federal investigators show Cohen got an email in June 2016 from Felix Sater, former Trump business associate and longtime acquaintance of Cohen's, who suggested the lawyer attend an economic conference in St. Petersburg where he could meet with Russian financial leaders, top government officials, and possibly even Vladimir Putin himself. Future correspondence included an official invitation to the event. Cohen reportedly declined to go, saying it took place too close to the Republican National Convention. Sater's interest lay in revitalizing the Trump Tower Moscow project that had fizzled back in January.

The second correspondence involved Russian billionaire Sergei Gordeev and a proposal to build a Trump-branded residential project in Moscow. Cohen corresponded with an international financier he'd worked with before, Giorgi Rtskhiladze, about the development as late as October 2015, but ultimately turned it down because Trump already had signed the letter of intent to build Trump Tower Moscow.
