Page Says He'll Take Fifth

News  |  Oct 10, 2017

According to Politico, former Trump campaign foreign policy advisor Carter Page has informed the Senate Intelligence Committee he will not testify and will plead the Fifth if asked. This is a complete reversal from Page's position in May when he said he had "no intention to plead the Fifth, since I've never done anything wrong." Politico says it's unclear whether the Senate Intelligence Committee formally has invited Page to appear.

CNN is weighing in with slightly different information, saying Page confirms he won't turn over documents but was willing to testify November 1st and was denied.

In March, Page volunteered to speak with the Senate Intelligence Committee. On April 28th, the Committee sent Page a letter asking him "to provide extensive information about any contact [he] had with Russian officials or representatives of Russian business interests since June 2015" and make himself available for an interview at a future date.

Page responded with a letter of his own on May 4th which read, in part:

"Although you set a range of suggested deadlines for the various extensive administrative tasks on your list over the coming weeks, I instead decided to initially get back to you today on the National Day of Prayer."

"Having survived the hate crimes committed against me by the Clinton/Obama regime which were in some part pursued due to my Roman Catholic faith ... finding strength through prayer in my church and by myself has remained a core source of support throughout this ongoing comically fake inquiry."

On May 22nd, Business Insider reported Page had yet to turn over documentation but still would be willing to testify.

Now, Page appears to have changed his mind.
