Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) -- chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee -- has released a letter he sent to FBI Director Christopher Wray on Wednesday asking if federal officials ever spoke with President Trump about the possibility that his campaign was at risk of Russian infiltration.
Grassley argues that because Trump himself, as confirmed by former FBI Director James Comey, was not under investigation at the time the FBI started looking into the issue of Russian interference, intelligence officials should have given him a defensive briefing. Grassley cites how the FBI allegedly informed Senator John McCain during the 2008 campaign that it had concerns about Paul Manafort and Rick Davis, Manafort's former business partner who became McCain's campaign manager.
CNN reports McCain is furious Senator Grassley brought up his name in this capacity.
Grassley says if the FBI did alert the Trump campaign, then how the campaign responded to that information would be of interest as well.
