Kazakhstan Mining Billionaire/Possible Trump Investor
Alexander Mashkevich is a Kazakhstan mining billionaire who appeared in promotional material as an investor in the development of Trump SoHo through the Bayrock Group, though whether he ever did invest is unconfirmed. In 2011, Mashkevich was accused in Belgium of a $55 million money-laundering scheme. He and two partners paid a fine and offered no admission of guilt. Haaretz once referred to Mashkevich as one of the biggest oligarchs to have emerged from the former Soviet Union, and McClatchy reports he allegedly has ties to organized crime.
