Lewandowski Testifying This Week

News  |  Jan 15, 2018

UPDATE: Corey Lewandowski has hired a lawyer:

The Daily Beast has learned that Peter Chavkin, of Mintz Levin, is representing Lewandowski for purposes of the Russia investigations.

Chavkin has significant experience representing people with messy legal situations. His law-firm bio says he’s represented Ruth Madoff for years, and also represented two investors in the disastrous Fyre Festival. Court documents show he also represented Fortunato Scalamandre, who pleaded guilty in 2001 to making payments to the Lucchese crime family.

President Trump's first campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, says he voluntarily will meet with congressional investigators either Wednesday or Thursday this week to answer questions about Russia.

The Hill

"The House Intelligence Committee sent me a letter asking me to voluntarily come in and have a conversation about what I know, and what I've responded to them is, 'I'll be happy to come in and sit down,'" the former Trump campaign manager told host Rita Cosby on WABC Radio

"I have nothing to hide. I didn't collude or cooperate or coordinate with any Russian, Russian agency, Russian government or anybody else, to try and impact this election. So they asked me to come in, I said I would," Lewandowski continued, adding that he would be able to "set the record straight."

The Washington Post reported in November that George Papadopoulos, a foreign policy adviser on the campaign, told Lewandowski several times that the Russians were interested in forming a relationship with the Trump campaign.

In early October, Papadopoulos pleaded guilty to lying to federal agents about his contacts with Russian nationals.

Lewandowski says Special Counsel Robert Mueller has not contacted him yet, but this week's meeting will not be his first with Congress.

CNN:

Lewandowski has already appeared before the Senate Intelligence Committee, testifying behind closed doors in a mid-October session with committee staff.
