Sources tell CNN that former President Obama's ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power is meeting with the House Intelligence Committee behind closed doors on Friday. Investigators looking into Russian interference in the 2016 election and possible Trump campaign collusion also are examining whether the Obama administration did enough to prevent the foreign intrusion.
Loretta Lynch, Obama's attorney general, is scheduled to meet with Senate and House Intelligence Committee investigators next week. She may speak with the Senate Judiciary Committee too.
Republicans have targeted Lynch for an impromptu meeting she had with former President Bill Clinton on a Phoenix airport tarmac in June 2016 while the FBI was investigating Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server during her time as secretary of state.
Former FBI Director James Comey testified in May 2017 that Lynch asked him to downplay the Clinton email investigation, and after the tarmac meeting, he felt the Department of Justice could not render a decision not to prosecute without looking biased. Lynch agreed to leave matters up to the FBI, and Comey decided to conclude the investigation without charges.
Congressional investigators likely will revisit the issue of Lynch's handling of the investigation into Clinton's email server when she appears next week.
