The Department of Homeland Security told 21 states on Friday that they had been targets of Russian hacking during the 2016 election.

DHS officials told the Senate Intelligence Committee about the potential breaches during a hearing on June 21, 2017, but they did not identify which states, "saying [the Department] regularly kept victim information secret when it worked with partners in various critical infrastructure sectors."

Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Minnesota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin all confirmed with the Associated Press they were among the states just notified.  Arizona and Illinois knew they had been targets prior to Friday's disclosure. Illinois is the only state so far that has admitted hackers got into its voting systems. The rest have said the hackers only scanned computers looking for entry points.
