In a post entitled "Drafts of Director Comeys July 5, 2016 Statement Regarding Email Server," the FBI shows former Director James Comey sent colleagues a version of his prepared remarks exonerating yet chastising Hillary Clinton months before interviewing her.
The content of the emails is redacted, but Newsweek reports the existence of an early draft confirms Senators Chuck Grassley's (R-IA) and Senator Lindsey Graham's (R-SC) assertions that Comey wrote his statement in advance.
It is unclear what the existence of this early draft proves without knowing what it says. The question remains whether Comey was prejudging the outcome of an investigation before it was complete or whether he simply was compiling a statement of facts as the case progressed without drawing any premature conclusions.
