Investigators Dig Into Trump Data Firm

News  |  Oct 13, 2017

The Daily Beast reports that House Intelligence Committee investigators are taking a closer look at Cambridge Analytica (CA), the unusual data firm financed by Trump allies and utilized by his campaign. CA claims to do "psychographic" profiling which purports to offer more comprehensive information about voters and their personalities, allowing clients to micro-target specific messaging.

Because Russian online ads and where they were distributed displayed a high level of sophistication for a foreign power not entrenched in U.S. politics, congressional investigators are wondering if CA helped.

President Trump's former chief strategist Steve Bannon has millions invested in CA and once sat on its board. Robert Mercer -- a billionaire hedge-fund manager, $10-million-dollar investor in Bannon's Breitbart News, and Trump's biggest campaign donor -- reportedly owns a piece of CA as well.
