IRS Now Sharing Info With Mueller

News  |  Sep 26, 2017

A CNN exclusive report reveals the IRS Criminal Investigation division now is sharing information about former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort and former national security advisor Michael Flynn with Special Counsel Robert Mueller and his team. That information includes "anything tax return-related such as real estate and banking records."

Prior to the 2016 election, IRS and FBI agents had been working together on an investigation into Manafort for tax fraud and money laundering issues. According to CNN, the IRS worried that Mueller's July raid on Manafort's home would interfere with their ongoing work. They also expressed concern as to the scope of Mueller's probe which required the IRS to provide 11 years' worth of documentation.  CNN says officials at the Treasury Department helped the IRS and Mueller work out an agreement.

Mueller's team also is examining Flynn's financial connections to Turkish and Russian entities. It is not clear whether the IRS is now or had any point been investigating Flynn on its own.
