According to Politico, Twitter representatives will meet with Senate Intelligence Committee investigators in Washington, D.C. at some point before mid-October. Of particular interest is the role Russian trolls and bots - automated accounts - played in replicating and amplifying disinformation during the 2016 campaign. Investigators also are looking closely at how certain Russian-promoted stories made their way onto conservative media sites, whether popular fake news tweets could boost Google search results, and if Russian actors used Twitter to communicate with collaborators.
While Twitter has a smaller user base than Facebook, it is extremely effective in reaching media outlets and influencers.
